Plastic Surgery: It is a common misunderstanding that the word plastic in plastic surgery means artificial. The word comes from the ancient Greek word plastikos, which means to mould or give form. Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involved with both the improvement in a person's appearance and the reconstruction of facial and body tissue defects caused by illness, trauma, or birth disorders. Cosmetic surgery is a type of plastic surgery.

The Plastic Surgeon: Plastic surgeons are generally of two types. Those focusing on  reconstructive surgery done on abnormal structures of the body that may be caused by Trauma, Infections etc and are trying to improve the function or appearance of a person. On the other hand Cosmetic surgeons focus on aesthetic or cosmetic procedures with the aim to repair or reshape an otherwise normal structure of the body, usually to improve appearance.
